Ecotourism : Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary

Idukki Ecotourism, along with the support of the locals and natives, is a venture aimed at informing and entertaining the community at large. This specially designed set of community-based eco-tourism programmes, enhances visitors’ experience at the sanctuary.

This also focuses on the better conservation of sanctuary with people participation ensuring the livelihood development of the forest-dependent community. The programmes are conducted by locals mostly tribals who are responsible for the surveillance of tourism zone as well as the other areas of the sanctuary. While taking tourists along with them, they not only interpret the values of Idukki Sanctuary but also add to the protection of the park and thus earn a livelihood for themselves. Thus, when a visitor is buying a ticket, she/he is directly contributing to the cause of conservation and community welfare. The Idukki Forest Development Agency and Eco Development Committees (Forest dependent community) in Idukki Sanctuary are the authorised agencies for conducting the eco-tourism activities in the Sanctuary.
